ANTI FITNESS CLUB
biography

Anti Fitness Club was formed in 2002 by Tamás Molnár, Balázs Fekete, and Anti. Their current line-up is: Tamás "Tomi" Molnár (guitar, vocals), Balázs "Feka" Fekete (drums), Miklós "Miki" Varsányi (bass, joined in 2003), Péter "Peti" Szabó (guitar, joined in 2007, replacing Anti). The guys chose the name because instead of going to sport-fields and fitness clubs, they prefered hanging out in rock clubs, rehearsal rooms and gigs. Their first songs were written in punk-rock style.

At the end of 2005, after two demos and numerous gigs
they had the chance to tour with Macskanadrág and Prosectura, two of the
most popular Hungarian underground bands. By the end of 2006 they've had more than 60 gigs.

During the spring of 2007 they recorded their third, far more melodic and sophisticated demo, making a fan base through MySpace, achieving a management deal with the most successful producer-songwriter of Hungary, SzabóZé, and also their first record contract with mTon/Warner.

Their first video ("Még vár ránk ez a Föld!" - "The Earth Is Still Waiting For Us") debuted in November 2007 prompting a huge new interest by the mainstream media (also earning them an exclusive media support from BRAVO, the biggest selling teen magazine in Hungary), and widened their fan base. Tomi also starred in VIVA TV's reality series, "Stáb" ("The Staff") among other teen celebrities.

By that time they've recorded their debut album and shot their second video for the song "Többet érsz!" ("You're Worth More!"). The clip remained in the top ten of VIVA Chart Show for months.

The debut album was released on the 7th of June and this day was significant for AFC for three reasons: in an instore autograph session they were signing for thousands of fans for more than 2 hours, then they participated the BRAVO OTTO Awards, where they won the "Newcomer of the Year" award voted by the audience, and they were the main performers of the event. Almost 1000 devoted fans enjoyed the gig despite the heavy rainstorm.

The success of their first two singles helped catapult their debut album - simply titled "Anti Fitness Club" - on the sales list at #6, between Madonna's Hard Candy and Ákos' (the most popular Hungarian singer) latest album. The following week AFC won the "Newcomer of the Year" award at VIVA Comet, voted by journalists and music business professionals.

Their third video "Miért hazudom..." ("Why Do I Lie") was shot at the end of summer and got heavy rotation at VIVA immediately, despite the fact that the channel's representatives found some scenes too provocative and censored them.

After a few warm-up gigs in the summer, Anti Fitness Club held their biggest sold out concert so far in one of the largest venues in Budapest. The English version of their third video, "Why Do I Lie" has already been released, and the re-recording of the album in English is already in process.

While widely considered to be an "emo" band, AFC has direct ties to melodic pop-punk music. A central part of AFC's style is rooted in the band's lyrics, entirely penned by singer-songwriter Tamás Molnár, who commonly uses irony and other literary devices to narrate personal experiences and stories.
